Titles like Argus Press Software's 1984 strategy game, Alien, and Electric Dreams' 1986 shooter, Aliens, revelled in the opportunity to terrify players with Giger's hyper-sexualised creation, playing on the fear and tension inherent in the movies to dramatic interactive effect. He has worked with recording artists including Blondie, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Korn, and has created signature models for Ibanez Guitars. The film also shows that the Xenomorph’s look is not as disgusting and terrifying as the way the species reproduces. R Giger’s book in that particular publishing niche, but the unnerving exploration of the deepest, darkest fantasies says otherwise. The two titles received mixed reviews at the time, though they are notable in their use of high-resolution visuals (which the artist insisted on) and the bizarre appearance of the lead designer in the lead protagonist role.These circumstances clearly show the intellectual and social atmosphere surrounding the creation of H. Oddly enough this determined my path as a reader too, since Giger turned me onto Lovevecraft, who turned me onto Dunsany, Clark Ashton Smith, Howard, etc.

Giger’s fascination with all things surreal and macabre began at a young age and this led to an interest in expressing himself through visual arts. R. Giger Necronomicon were to be remembered by only one piece of art, it would absolutely have to be Necronom IV. We have to take into account, however, that the pop-culture which made us familiar with ugliness (and may have even bored us with it) owes its openness to anti-aesthetics in part to Giger. He gave game designers permission to play with erotic, even perverse, imagery within the sometimes staid, antiseptic confines of popular science fiction.R. Giger’s works – his style is often described as “biomechanical”, and one of the albums of the Swiss author was titled Biomechanics. Capcom's Resident Evil series must surely have looked to Giger for its mutated human enemies, often loaded with strange sexual imagery.

As you may or not know, I have been sorting through boxes of books that have been collected by me and fam over the last decade or two, and I am desperately trying to thin the collection. The artist’s most widely known creation, the design of the Xenomorph from the movie Alien, is not unlike a lens, focusing a host of primal fears, such as those connected with parasites.

Following high school, Giger studied architecture and industrial design at Zurich’s School of Applied Arts. The metaphor of the body as a mechanism found its use in education, among others – for example, this illustration by the pioneer of infographics, Fritz Kahn, titled Der Mensch Als Industrielpalast (meaning Man As Industrial Palace ), was published in 1926. The lickers, the ooze, the Medusa-like Uroboros and the invasive Duvalia all played on the themes of bodily transgression and oral sexuality that Giger explored.
