About this deal

To do this, the butterflies fold their wings back when attached to trees as their folded wings will provide camouflage against the dark backdrop of the trees.

Like other dark-winged velvety butterflies, the Mourning Cloak's open wings absorb heat from the sunlight, and as a result it can fly even in the cool morning air. His collection contains British examples of the Large Tortoiseshell, Black Veined White, Large Copper and Mazarine Blue, along with valuable information about when and where they were collected. Directly after moulting the head is ochreous, but in a very short time turns jet-black and shining; also there are ochreous dorsal markings which soon change to dull brown. We have a few specimens of this species in our collection, most of which are from the D H Walker entomology collection. Breeding populations occur in Scandinavia and across central mainland Europe, but not in Britain or Ireland. As the plot develops we loop in and around stories as you do when you're talking, making the novel feel very natural. However, it was a tale of middle aged, middle class women falling apart with sexual fantasies to boot. When a stout stem is selected for the eggs the batch does not encircle it, but only covers that portion (generally about half the circumference and always on the under side) which the abdomen can cover with the ovipositor.

It is thought that butterflies fresh from hibernation do not migrate and hence the assumption is that spring sightings in the British Isles are of individuals which arrived the previous year and successfully hibernated in this country. Compelling to read, but most of the characters are quite awful people, perhaps a sign of our society . It is also often known as the Mourning Cloak and i n past times it was also known as the Grand Surprise.

A large, spectacular and very rare late-summer migrant that is occasionally blown across from Scandinavia on easterly winds. But happiness is a fragile thing and hairline cracks in a perfect world can become craters of misery . Hard to like a book, or even really enjoy reading it, when the author pours so much venom on all the characters and it is hard to see quite what it is about them that engenders such vitriol.

Mourning cloaks also play dead by closing their wings tightly together and tucking their legs up against their body for protection and holding completely still.

This species is a rare migrant to the UK but like all of our migrant butterflies, occasional large influx years do occur. Mostly this stands up very well to being read two decades later but the occasional comment does not sit well.
