special carbon fiber cantilever to refract the record grooves with exceptional precision thus resulting in Another small but improved visual detail that I like is how the dust cover meets the top of the turntable. On the LP60, the dustcover came down onto the turntable and meet the record player’s edges with little room for margin. And I think that’s a great thing, because while people always want to save money, I think that when it comes to the vinyl hobby specifically, you want to feel you’re getting a luxury feel—even if you’re really not. The AT-LP60X is Audio-Technica’s entry-level turntable in its latest iteration. Before it was upgraded in 2019, its model description didn’t include the X at the end. Before 2019 it was sold as the AT-LP60. I have a highly upgraded Rega Planar 2 that cost about 10 times more than the AT-LP60XBT that I have used for this comparison.

The AT-LP60X allows it’s dust cover to come down, with about an inch (maybe less) or room to remain in the front. And that extra room serves as a description panel for the front facing buttons. So now, you can—from the top down—see which button changes the speed of the record player, which button starts and stops the turntable, and which button lifts the tonearm up and down. The AT-LP60X has a square and compact layout. It looks tidy and quite elegant. It isn’t flashy or screaming for attention. Two powered speakers that will be great companions for the AT-LP60X are the Audioengine A5 Plus and the Edifier S1000DB. If you have a pair of active speakers, like the excellent Klipsch R-15PM, or a tabletop speaker with an auxiliary input like the Google Home Max, then the Audio-Technica AT-LP60X can really help complete your system. It will also pair well with a more contentional AV system for the occasional wind-down session, perhaps with a snifter of port. It's a really flexible and easy-to-live-with turntable. But what’s great is that Audio-Technica gives you the option to either use its built in phono preamp, or to bypass it and use (for example) an audio component like an integrated amplifier’s very own RIAA phono input.Three stars may appear harsh for a budget product offering so much in the way of functionality. If you were buying it based on price and features alone, it would be good value for money, but the AT-LP60XBT just falls short of our being able to recommend it to those semi-serious about their vinyl. They both are designed in very similar fashion, of course, so they do share a striking resemblance. But the LP60X is a more refined machine, and I think that (just purely from an aesthetics point of view) it looks better on a table or cabinet than the LP-60 did. If you are building a vinyl setup from scratch, it might be worth considering using powered speakers with the AT-LP60X It plays 33 and 45 RPM records and it has a replaceable stylus (needle) that can be replaced for a low cost when it is worn out. It will usually take about 1000 hours to wear it out.

First, after you’ve taken everything out of the box, place the large circular platter onto the AT-LP60X. You’re going to want the rectangular opening that has the red ribbon attached exposes the motor pulley. The motor pulley is made of brass, and its located in the upper left hand corner of the record player. This pulley is where you’re going to have to install the belt. providing a great latitude to seriously enhance the performance of your turntable. The acoustical performance increaseBut I think the AT-LP60X looks quite nice. Most people would probably guess that I have paid more for it than I actually have. One thing you wouldn't expect from an ultra-budget turntable is that the sound quality would scale with more expensive equipment. Hook a music jewellery box up to a costly stereo system, for example, and all you'll hear is louder tinkling. The Audio-Technica, on the other hand, really shone with a more expensive system where the bass in particular was able to stretch out. And I think you will need speakers that are many times more expensive than the AT-LP60X before the turntable becomes the weak link in the system. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 2nd November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) We don’t get audiophile sound from the AT-LP60X. But we get very good sound for the price. Impressively good sound for the price, I will say.

What’s nice, too, is that Audio-Technica gives you the option to be able to play this turntable via a wired or wireless connection. So, on the days where maybe the bluetooth signal isn’t working, or maybe your entire Internet connection is down, you can still listen to you records by connecting your turntable directly to an amplifier or powered speakers. If you’re looking for the Too Long Didn’t Read (TLDR) version of my review, here it is: The Audio Technica AT-LP60X is a great turntable for entry-level vinyl enthusiasts.

Easy like Sunday morning

So it is very easy to use and operate. And you don’t have to worry about being distracted and leaving the needle endlessly spinning in the inner grooves. When the record is finished, it automatically return the tonearm and shuts off. If you want something cheaper, then the Edifier R1280DB is a great option. They won’t sound as good as the two more expensive recommendations above, but they are the best budget powered speakers that I know of. If you set the switch to PHONO, you will need to use the PHONO input on a receiver or powered speakers with a preamp built-in. In this setting, the preamp that is built into the AT-LP60X will be bypassed. With these improvements you'll soon be enjoying your LPs once again. Speed accuracy: 33.3 RPM ± 0.25%. Of course, the AT-LP60XBT can also be operated just like a regular turntable with a traditional wired connection. Either way – wired or wireless – you get outstanding audio with the ease of automatic operation controlled by front-panel start, stop and tonearm lift buttons.better accuracy, natural tonality, spatial detail and crystal clean sound. You can keep the factory installed The AT-LP60X is a great entry-level turntable that punches far above its weight class. It basically has no competition in its exact price range. It is fully automatic and easy to use. Considered the affordable price, it sounds very good, also in Bluetooth operation. Let’s talk a bit about how easy it is to set this turntable up, and then we’ll get into the features of this record player and how they can benefit you. I have played records with my AT-LP60XBT to my wireless Beats Studio headphones. The pairing process was smooth and the sound is quite nice. Sound Again, this is a more refined looking turntable, so the front panel buttons are now circular and a bit more recessed into the panel itself. To me, it gives off a less showy and cheap vibe and more of a classy visual appeal. It’s in no way a big deal in the long run, but visually, I much prefer the look of the LP60X.
