At less than 24cm high, the Spektor 1 speakers are ideal for where space is tight. As well as making great stereo speakers for smaller rooms they also suit surround sound home cinema or quality desk-top systems. We reserve the right to refuse installation should our engineers think that the existing electrical or plumbing points are unsafe and in need of maintenance or if they are unable to install to existing furniture.

Clarity in an audio signal is obtained by low loss of information in combination with creating a smooth and seamless reproduction in both the time and frequency domain. I was thinking recently about how the Menuets had grown on me. They sort of creep up on you and before you know it you are hooked. I threw the ultimate test at them – Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Pusherman’ off the album ‘Superfly’. They passed nicely. Polyrhythmic drum flourishes and cross-beats abound, and separation and imaging were excellent. These speakers are winners. Notice the clean front baffle, which utilizes magnets to support the grille covers. Cosmetically and sonically, it’s a bunch of little things…but they add up. The Spektor 1 tweeter is able to render high frequencies with high accuracy. This means very short excursions, but at high speed, - or rather with high acceleration. In other words, it features a low moving mass and a strong motor. The softness and balance previously described are perceptible throughout the sound spectrum. Nevertheless, the soundstage loses a bit of stature compared to the Dali Spektor 6. The Dali Spektor 2 compact models were used as main speakers and were not convincing in terms of low frequencies?a subwoofer is therefore highly recommended. Yet, the circular sounds in Gravity (AC3, 5.1 16/48) were very precise. The restitution of voices muffled by helmets hit the mark. These are really tiny two way speakers, just 237 X 140 X 197 mm. They are rated at 83 db efficient and can handle a power range of 40-100 watts. They are nominally rated as 6 ohm speakers.

Dali has tried to keep this speaker as versatile as possible, even including a rear panel fixing to make wall mounting easier. While these speakers sound notably more balanced than most rivals when used right up against a wall, if possible, we suggest pulling them around 30cm into the room to make the most of their excellent stereo imaging and midrange clarity. Tonally, the Spektor 2s have a full-bodied yet balanced presentation. There isn’t much sign of the over-enthusiastic treble we’ve been subjected to in some previous generations of budget Dalis. At no point will you miss a lyric thanks to an overpowering bass drum, or the muddying complications of a lead guitar. Highs, mids and lows are presented in perfect harmony, and the longer you listen, the more details will jump out at you.

If the Spektor 2’s listening experience could be summed up in one word, it would be ‘precise’. The biggest thing you’ll notice if this is your first pair of ‘proper’ speakers is that everything is perfectly balanced. Having thrown a mix of genres their way, from melodic trance to funky jazz, and vocal-heavy ballads, everything just sounds… right. By using only Dali designed and custom-built drivers, the need for frequency correction in the crossover is eliminated. This enabled Dali to design an exact crossover out of quality components which ensures that the signal loss is close to zero. Inspired by a firm belief that we could create a unique sonic identity that focused on musical realism and sound integrity, we set out to redefine the reproduction of sound. Looks are completely subjective though, and we rather like their classy, mid-century minimal-ish design. If you’re not worried about curious children and/or pets from tampering with those precious delicate wood fibre cones and tweeters, we’d recommend removing the grilles to show off the beautiful components underneath, which adds a welcome dash of visual excitement to proceedings. We will try our best however if we are unable to do this we will still install connect to plumbing and put the appliance in situ. Dali Spektor 1 speakers are entry level in everything but sound, an ultra-compact bookshelf speaker built around a 4½ wood fibre woofer and a 21 mm soft dome tweeter. They are perfect for almost any situation that requires a very small but high performance speaker, either in a compact two channel system or as the front, rear or side speakers in a home cinema system. On paper, the Dali Spektor offers a well-balanced delivery. Their 6 ohm impedance rating, which the brand says is balanced from one end of the spectrum to the other, should not be a problem for hi-fi amplifiers and home cinema receivers (even for models rated at 8 Ohms). Dali Spektor: woofersOn the surface these may look like a posh pair of Spektor 2s, and there are certainly some strong visual similarities. But start listening to the Oberon 1s at the end of a suitably talented system and you’ll find they’re capable of sonic feats the junior speakers only hint at. But aside from the limitations of size, they produce a quality of sound only the very best at this level can get close to.
